Rather than one, expensive cycling jacket that hangs uselessly in the closet for all but the most arctic conditions, the De Marchi Softshell Vest has enough protection to get you through the worst of autumn and winter. For cool cycling, just wear a base layer underneath; when the temperature and precipitation start falling, a thermal jersey or base layer and weather-repellent arm warmers make this a winter jacket. For the construction of the Softshell, De Marchi uses its proprietary ThermaShield 3L fabric. This material provides a triple layer of protection against the elements. The exterior of the fabric is water-resistant, which is further reinforced by a windproof membrane. The lining is a soft, brushed fleece that insulates well while wicking moisture from base layers to prevent the accumulation of clammy moisture on your skin. The vest is designed with anatomically cut, pre-shaped panels to accommodate a cycling posture (stretched out on the bars) and typical motions (reaching for bottles, gels, etc.) . The tall collar and exaggerated hem provide added coverage from the elements, and the chest pocket and rear poacher's pocket are both zipped, so your cargo and personal effects are afforded the same courtesy.
